Strawberry Moon Ritual – The Moon of Ripening Potential

The Full Strawberry Moon in Sagittarius – 20 Sag 39′ – will peak on June 11th at 1:46 AM, MST, providing a wonderful opportunity for a late- night ritual. It is the last full moon before the Summer Solstice (Friday, June 20, 2025). This solstice marks the official beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring when Earth arrives at the point in its orbit where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt (about 23.5 degrees) toward the Sun, resulting in the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year.

June’s Strawberry Moon gets its name from the Algonquin tribe, found in the northeastern U.S. and eastern Canada. The name directly refers to that region’s abundance of ripened wild strawberries which have been gathered for centuries by the indigenous people. June’s full moon has also been called the Honey Moon, the Rose Moon, the Berries Ripen Moon, Green Corn Moon, Hot Moon, Birth Moon, Hatching Moon. Still other names are the Horse Moon, Flower Moon, Planting Moon, Egg Laying Moon, Blooming Moon, and Mead Moon.

June is a wonderful time of the year. As the weather warms, we gravitate to outdoor activities, recreation, and most importantly to planting and caring for our gardens. As our flowers bloom, vegetables start to show buds, and our herbs grow taller, the feeling of potential and abundance grows stronger with each passing day. What we’ve planted will soon develop into so much more. The energy we expend now will yield a return of energy with the harvest.

Full Strawberry Moon Ritual Circle

<Using your Sage Wand, cleanse the space around the circle. As you do so, say:>

“I cleanse this space of all negative, stagnant, and uninvited energy. I welcome the powerful lunar energy of the full strawberry moon, the grounding energy of Mother Earth, and the ambient energies of all good spirits and entities.”

<now to cast the circle – you may remind the participants that this ritual has no quarter candles, but to remain within the smudged area>

“I cast this circle, a sacred space. A boundary between the world of spirit and the world of matter, where all are welcome and all are safe”

East – Direction of Air
Turn to the East and honor the Spirits of Air, let the winds clear your mind and allow insight and clarity to find your spirit. Feel the breath of new life cascade across that which is ripening inside of you.

South – Direction of Fire
Now turn to the South and pay homage to the Spirits of Fire, let your mind roam free to feel the flames of passion and transformation. Be the spark that becomes the flame and drives you to seek a higher purpose and bring your thoughts to reality.

West – Direction of Water
Look to the West and give your attention to the Spirits of Water, for they hold the wellsprings of emotion, intuition, and understanding. Let the grace of all movement flow through you, washing away that which no longer serves you and giving life to those things which will lead you into the next phase of your existence.

North – Direction of Earth
Bring your sight now to the North, and seek the guidance of the Spirits of Earth, for above all, they are the roots of our existence, the grounding force that provides stability and growth. That which holds substance will most certainly reach to the light, bloom, and then give a prospering fruit.”

Invocation of the Moon
<Light the white candle and say:>

Strawberry Moon, sweet and full, we welcome your ripened light.
Shine on what has blossomed and reveal the harvest of our spirits.
We honor your energetic glow and the strength you provide.

Take a moment, look skyward, and connect with the moon. Visualize its light surrounding your body, filling your space with peaceful illumination. Absorb its healing energy and become one with the universe.

Strawberry Moon – The Moon of Ripening Potential

We all have thoughts and ideas constantly brewing in our minds. Sometimes they are but a fleeting thought, while other times they are much more, so much that they consume our days and live in our dreams at night. Most of the time, like overripened fruit, they die on the vine and become fertilizer for another batch of ideas in the future. But what if just this once, we embraced those thoughts while they were ripening, and instead of waiting around, we brough them to harvest, sharing them with the world.

At first, the idea of using a fruit metaphor to describe budding ideas, seemed funny, albeit hilarious. But in retrospect, it’s a perfect way of looking at things. Often times we procrastinate, rationalize out of existence, or plain old, write off our own ideas for a multitude of reasons. It feels perfectly normal to act this way. But looking around, I don’t see any normal people here. What I see is extraordinary people who just need a nudge in the right direction.

Rather than a spiritual cleanse this month, our focus is on an energy infusion to our ripening ideas, so as to give them life.

<light the red or pink candle>

With this flame, we bear witness to those thoughts that are becoming, to those ideas that are still on the vine, and those that are but tiny shoots. Tonight, we gather the energy of the full Strawberry Moon from above, and the grounding energy of the earth from below and harness them for our own needs. What we have tended in our minds, must be nurtured until it bears fruit. When the fruit is ripe, it must be harvested and allowed to shine.

If you have a symbol of your current goal, hold it with both hands, if your goal is but a thought, then write it down and hold it in front of you.

Now focus on the collective energies of the realm, pulling down the lunar power and pulling up the grounding power. Ask yourself are you ready to bring your idea into being? Are you prepared to support the early, often difficult stages? What still needs patience or care? How will you measure the growth against your goal? Open your eyes to the widest possible width and encapsulate the idea and all of its challenges and rewards.

If you wish, read your words aloud and bring them into existence!

Offering and Gratitude

<Share the berries or fruit with everyone>

As the Earth gives us fruit, we return thanks.
For nourishment, for flavor, and for sustenance.
We honor the abundance within and around us.

<Have everyone place their papers in the offering bowl>

To the spirits who are always at my side,
To the strawberry moon that lights the way,
To the earth and its grounding energy
We ask for the light to shine upon them
So that they may grow into their true intent.

Closing Our Full Strawberry Moon Ritual

North
Join me once again and look to the North. Cast your gaze far into the distance, and remain certain that the steady presence of the mountains, forests, and great plains, shall remain in your heart as you walk forward

West
Now, once more we look to the West. Remember forever that the flow of moving water will cleanse, heal, and eventually erase the things that stand in your way. We must remain faithful to the notion that dreams take time to emerge as something tangible.

South
Our eyes now to the South, where fire remains a faithful companion. As with invention, a single spark leads to a great and powerful force for change. We must remember to keep vigilant and tend to the flames with care, lest they wrest control from our own hands.

East
Now East again, for even as we come to the close, in our hearts a new beginning always awaits. The night shall continue until the break of day, and tomorrow the first rays shall be the first day of our thoughts emerging into the light.

Now with lightness in your step and a twinkle in your eyes, go in peace. This circle is open but unbroken.
