May 2019 Full Flower Moon – Bonding Energies With Nature

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedin

full flower moonThis is a ritual for the May Full Flower Moon which occurs on May 18th, 2019.  The name Full Flower Moon was given because May is the month when most of the early springtime flowers are in full beautiful bloom.  This moon is also known as the Mother’s Moon, the Corn Planting Moon, and the Milk Moon.  May is a time when the concern of frost has passed and it’s safe to plant all crops.  It’s also a time of fertility as seeds are sprouting, chicks and pups are being birthed and nature is coming on strong in every direction.

Some consider the May Full Flower Moon as a Blue Moon, despite it being the only full moon in the month of May.  Historically, the definition of a Blue Moon was the third of four full moons to occur in an astronomical season.  In 2019 we had a March full moon on the same day as the equinox, the beginning of the season, followed by the April full moon, the May Full Flower Moon, and finally next month, we’ll see June’s full moon just a few days ahead of the summer solstice.  Using this older definition, the May Full Moon is a Blue Moon.

The steps to perform this ritual are listed below.  Any part of the text which is surrounded with these “< >” symbols should be considered instructions steps for the leader, and not to be spoken aloud.

You’ll need the following items:

Quarter Candles (yellow, red, blue, green)
Large White Goddess Candle – I prefer a three wick candle to symbolize the triple Goddess
Paper and pencil for each participant
Assorted Fresh Herbs
Chalice with sacred water (blessed or otherwise purified)
Fire pit or cauldron suitable for safely burning small objects and paper
Altar

<A call to action for the participants to stop talking, gather, and prepare to begin the ritual>

A circle gathers all around, high above and on the ground, a sacred sphere between the worlds, I do cast!

Calling the Quarters

Whispering winds of the East, sweet springtime Air that carries upon it the glorious scent of nature in full bloom, we humbly ask for your presence in our circle this night. <light yellow candle>

Brilliant and glorious flames from the great Fires of the South, we call upon you on this night to join us in our circle, surrounding and penetrating our collective energies and cleansing our physical bodies of negative energy. <light red candle>

Purest clear and cold Waters from the West immerse us in your cleansing power; fill us with the same vitality that feeds all life across the globe.  We call upon you to join us in our circle this night. <light blue candle>

Great spirits of the North, we call upon you to join us this night, bringing a foundational stability to those gathered here, grounding us in the same foundations of our Earth. <light green candle>

Brigid, triple goddess of the dawn, patroness of healing, smithcraft, and poetry; grace us with your light, your inspiration, and your command of the flame; we call upon you to illuminate our way with your radiance – Welcome and blessed be <light Goddess candle>

Musical Interlude

Rituals are a big part of all pagan practices; it’s an opportunity for people to come together in celebration of the season, or in the case of moon ceremonies, to cleanse and heal as a community.  One great icebreaker in all gathering is music, so each month we choose something appropriate to start the ceremonies with.  This month our selection is from Ariana Silver, titled “Song of the Moon”

Opening Statement

Full moons have a way of washing away the negative energy to make room for positive energy.  The full moon for the month of May is called the Full Flower Moon, also called the Full Blessing Moon, The Corn Planting Moon, and the Bright Moon.  The feelings surrounding the Full Flower Moon can be applied to humanity. Like the springtime flowers, it signifies to all people that it is time for us to not only blossom, but to grow day by day; soaking up the sun’s rays, and gathering energy from them.  The full moon also symbolizes shining a light on our darkest days and illuminating the deepest and darkest corners of ourselves.  When we allow the light of awareness to penetrate the darkest places of ourselves; the places where ignorance, shame, guilt, and embarrassment reside, we can start the cleansing and healing process. The Full Flower Moon is there to assist us in shedding our outer skin as a form of renewal.

This is the time for self-reflection and self-assessment. Look into yourselves for things that have been hidden; draw your inner strength so they will make themselves known. You are offered the chance to heal and to look at yourself in a whole new way; bathed in the light of the Full Flower Moon.  This is also a chance for rebirth.  Step bravely out of your comfort zone and experience…anything your heart desires.  The May full moon accompanies with it a great potential for change. Embrace this change and welcome the magnificent shifts coming your way!

Monthly Cleansing

Each full moon, we take time to release, to purposefully surrender those things which are weighing us down and filling our soul full of negativity.  Despite our best efforts, we all carry baggage from bad experiences, unhappy encounters, and the unfortunate introduction of bad things into our lives.  If you are in tune, many of those encounters are deflected, yet not always.  Psychic Vampires are always trying to break through our defenses to attach dark cords to us.  Creatures of chaos are trying to disrupt our otherwise harmonious lives.  Those who dwell in darkness are constantly reaching up in an attempt to pull us down, but we choose instead to cleanse ourselves on the Full Flower Moon.

<offer paper and pencil to write down things>

This battle between light and dark has gone on for eons and will continue.  And so each month we come together in support of one another and cast off that which no longer serves us, we cut the cords of energy thieves, and we open up space to be filled with strong and supportive energy.  If you have something you wish to release, then please approach the fire and send it to the skies above in an act of permanent banishment.

Moon Magick

Music and moonlight, when brought together are an effective ways to draw the conscious mind and the unconscious mind closer together; they allow us to set aside our mundane concerns and enter the awareness in which miracles can occur.  With an open mind, and helpful spirit, we choose to focus our energies on our gardens, natural greenery, and all things living with a simple gesture that bonds our energies to those of the natural world.

<have everyone either remove their shoes, or place their hands on the naked earth to establish a connection with the living land>

Tonight we honor the flowers, but also the trees and all living things.  We choose to share our collective energies with the greenery surrounding us and establish a permanent bond with the natural world.  We understand that our actions and deeds have significant impact on this planet and are making a conscious choice to dedicate our energies to aid in healing that which has become broken, to nurture that which is in the early stages of life, and to safeguard that which has existed long before our birth and will continue to exist long after we’ve crossed over into the spirit world.

<state the incantation below – once completed, walk the circle and sprinkle sacred water on the exposed hands and feet of the participants>

We offer the Fey a mixture of fresh herbs as an offering of gratitude for their tireless efforts in keeping the earth rich and green – they are now damp with sacred water and coated in our collective energies – take one and when you arrive home tonight, place it with care in a special place somewhere outside – this offering will radiate it’s message to all Fey that are around and they will come and bring their growing and nurturing energies to your lands.
